The World of Roofing

Common Homeowners Questions

Get in Touch

Why your roof matters

A healthy roof does much more than keep out the rain. It plays a key role in:-

* Keeping your home warm and energy‑efficient

* Preventing damp, mould, and structural issues

* Protecting your belongings from leaks and weather damage

* Maintaining — and often increasing — your property’s value

Common Signs Your Roof Needs Attention:-

  • Missing, cracked, or slipped tiles
  • Damp patches on ceilings or walls
  • Blocked or overflowing gutters
  • Sagging or uneven areas on flat roofs
  • Moss growth or heavy debris build‑up
  • Water staining or daylight visible in loft spaces

Types of domestic roof

Pitched Roofs (Tile & Slate)

Durable and long‑lasting, but tiles can slip, slates can crack, and underfelt can deteriorate over time.

Flat Roofs (EPDM, Felt, GRP)

Modern systems offer excellent reliability, while older felt roofs may blister, crack, or hold standing water.

Leadwork

Lead flashing protects vulnerable areas such as chimneys, valleys, and roof junctions. Damaged leadwork is one of the most common causes of leaks.

Fascias, Soffits & Gutters

These components protect the roofline and manage rainwater. When they fail, water can enter roof spaces, walls, and foundations.

Why roof inspections matter

A professional roof inspection can:

  • Identify hidden problems before they become expensive
  • Extend the lifespan of your roof
  • Improve energy efficiency
  • Keep your home safe, dry, and structurally sound

If you examine the image above closely, you can see slipped, missing and cracked slates, while the birds enjoy the escaping heat  along with access into the roof void, none of which is good news. The difficulty, of course, is that height and inaccessibility make it almost impossible for an owner to spot these issues from ground level, whereas a drone survey reveals the problems.

Most people only call a roofer when a leak appears but by then, the damage is already done. Preventative care is always more cost‑effective than emergency repairs.

Drone Survey

A roof drone survey is one of the smartest, safest ways to understand the true condition of your home. Instead of climbing ladders or relying on word of mouth, a drone gives you clear, high‑resolution visuals of every part of your roof.

Property Care

This means you can spot early signs of damage, leaks, loose tiles, blocked gutters, or wear and tear long before they turn into expensive repairs. It’s faster than a traditional inspection, far safer, and often far more accurate.

Real Results

For homeowners, landlords, and property managers, a drone survey delivers peace of mind, evidence you can act on, and a cost‑effective way to protect your biggest investment, all for a small outlay.

Tile Clip

Depending on the roof structure, tile type, and local wind conditions, nails alone may not provide sufficient fixing. On most UK projects, tile clips are required to secure tiles properly.

Tile clipping is one of the most time‑intensive parts of roofing, as each two‑piece clip must be nailed, positioned accurately over the tile interlock, and fixed in place. The process is repetitive and slow, especially on large or complex roofs with multiple abutments, hips, and valleys.

Shortcut

Skipping or reducing roof tile clips to save time or effort is a dangerous shortcut. In the UK, BS 5534 regulations require all single-lap interlocking tiles to be mechanically fixed, and perimeter tiles must be fixed twice. Failing to clip tiles correctly can void manufacturer warranties and lead to total roof failure in high winds.

We understand that many customers are uncomfortable with heights, so we’re always happy to take photographs and discuss everything with you safely at ground level.

Our Promise

We take pride in the unseen details that make a roof truly reliable. Tile clipping is just one example of the steps we take behind the scenes to ensure strength and durability.

Our goal is simple: to deliver long‑lasting, trouble‑free roofs that protect your home for years to come. From the first inspection to the final clean‑up, we work safely, professionally, and with respect for you and your property.
